The City of Newark Mayor's Office has created this tool to share reporting on price gouging in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. "Price gouging" occurs when a vendor is selling goods or commodities at prices much higher than usual because of a disaster. To report, click "Submit a report" or SMS 848-456-2745 with your story and the address of the incident.
New Jersey makes illegal excessive price increases during a State of Emergency and for 30 days after the State of Emergency is lifted. We are currently still in a State of Emergency due to Hurricane Sandy.
Excessive price increases are defined as those more than 10 percent higher than the price charged before the State of Emergency.
If in doubt, please report.
Incidents reported on this site will be reported to the Newark Police Department and the NJ Attorney General's Division of Consumer Affairs. You can also reach the Division of Consumer Affair directly at 1-800-242-5846.
